2010-05-28 09:52:03 What is the legal status requirements of paying by Credit Card when supplier’s card reading system is down?? Can you leave after you have offered to part pay cash, provide details and return later to pay the balance?
I filled the car, with €60.58 diesel, early this morning, at my Local Petrogas Station in Shankill, but their card reading system and backup system was unable to connect and process the transaction. I was then asked for cash, but only had €40 and as I live locally offered to pay that and give my name and address and come back, but that was not acceptable. It was then suggested that I go to the cash machine nearby and draw the amount, but I explained that since my father in law had €1,500 scammed out of his bank account, I did not have a Debit Card to use.
The operative, a middle aged Irish national, tried both card reading machines time and time again and made some attempt to ring a bank, but advised that he got a recorded massage giving him options, which he said was a waste of time. He tried his own credit card scanning in a box of matches but was unable to proceed as 25 cent was to small a transaction. After 25 mins., he suddenly remembered that he could key in my card numbers which worked and he got me to sign.
This is the filling station I normally use and pay by credit card, the last transaction was 2 days previous but normally late afternoon. 9 comments
