You can now access pumps.ie from the road with the new pumps.ie mobile web site! The mobile site allows you to view and update prices in any area of the country just like the web site! There are 3 different versions of the site depending on the mobile device you are using to connect!

  • Basic mobile phones with small screens: http://www.pumps.ie/mp
  • Fancier mobile phones with larger screens, sometimes called Smart Phones: http://www.pumps.ie/sp
  • iPhone version: http://www.pumps.ie/iphone

Have a go and let us know what you think!

Excellent! any suggestions on usability? I've been using the iPhone one for a while now and it lets me easily update on the go. Any thoughts on how I could make the other mobile sites better? Would watchlists be worth putting in?

2009-05-25 13:42:15 I'm using a smartphone with http://www.pumps.ie/sp . It would be good to see My Watchlist, how's about it? When I choose "Dublin" as the county, the next screen says "choose a county" again - when it should be a postal area. Whatever I enter, it seems to be showing only the recent updates. Integration with Google Maps would be a big help and/or provide GPS location data that can be fed into sat nav.

hi Steveb. fixed that typo in the text, the stale an dout of date stations are at the bottom of the list. Would these be better off integrated into the list but coloured differently?

google maps is an interesting idea but í'm not sure how well it works on phones, I can take a look.

Hi Jon, for myself, I'm not too fussed about stale and out of date stations - somewhere out of the way would be good.  I've had Google Maps on my Samsung Omnia (Windows Mobile 6.1) for some months now and it works very well, especially in GPS mode,  but I don't know how you would integrate the stations data with it on the (windows) mobile platform.

I would imagine we cannot access the phone's native mapping features from the web site but I might be able to include google maps in a very basic form to show where the stations is. If we wanted to use the in phone mapping then a native application would be needed. I'm half considering doing a iPhone app but havenot gotten around to signing up for their developer program yet.

watchlist is great - but i would prefer to see both fuel prices side by side so that i can see does station need either updated.

also on all pages could do with a navigation back button to return - especially after price updates.

Do most phones not have back buttons?

yes but.....

try this. drill down and update a station price - this will auto bring you back to the station page and the back button from here will take you to the price update screen again :)

btw - there are some data cleanup issues now - take limerick county (there are 2 newcastle west options with/without space) and limerick listing under the county has a newcastle west station. see what you have opened - a can of....

Prices are now only listed on the front page if they are less than 1 week old. I have also replaced the trend icon with the date of the update so people can judge how old the update is. Hopefully this will make prices more reliable now that they are changing so much!

Connaugg re Top Cabra Rd Thurles does this station sell petrol as I rang them and they say they only sell Diesel and Agri Diesel and you have updated Petrol as 99.9 Derv as 99.7?

I updated the diesel price as 95.9 (one of the best currently in Ireland!) and the petrol as 999 - nine hundred and ninety nine. This is the default price for petrol where a station doesn't sell petrol - it takes it off the radar!  Jon, is there a better way of handling stations that sell diesel only and no petrol?  Any facility planned for bio diesel?

Ahh yes, paid service from mypois.ie, pumps.ie don't have the ability to send prices to sat nav devices, mypois.ie do. We do have mobile versions of the site for regular mobile phones, smart phones and the iPhone if that helps? Not as handy as on the sat-nav but still useful.

2009-06-10 22:45:18 Yes certainly is useful, any mobile website is always a good thing but no doesnt help me :-) Well maybe ill rephrase my point, maybe a discount to that website mypois.ie if a person has the most updated prices at the end of the month

We already have a 25% discount in place for pumps.ie users! We could look into having a bigger discount for the most updates but then we would need to be careful that the upates were correct and that it wasn't just the same update being made multiple times. We don't want the quality of the pumps.ie data to be effected!

Hi Jon,

I'm using the "sp" version, and when I login it says "login failed". However, if I go back to the earlier pages, it shows me as now logged in anyway.

I like it, though — handy for us non-iphone types. :)

Very nice on iphone but don't see a need for a full app - only real benefit would be hooking into position.  Did you consider sniffing browser agent & redirecting automatically?

Site is v. nice btw.  Looking forward to the day critical mass is acheived & you can ditch the ugly google ads for proper sponsors!  :-)

I use SP version with my Palm Treo (WM 6.1) and it looks good.  It would be good to have an option of getting best prices in Ireland (like main site)  for those long journeys ;-)

Also an option to default initial view to diesel (related to account) would be ideal (asked for before possibly),

With your SAT-NAV it will display the petrol stations within your area and updates as you move

From My POIS you can download these prices, but at a subscription :-(

but useful info if you didnt already know it

Also an option to default initial view to diesel (related to account) would speed things up.
